I will never forget the day the school nurse called me and told me that my daughter, Maya, appeared to have a breathing problem. She had been sent to the nurse when she said she wasn't feeling well during her gym class... It took another 2-1/2 months to find out what was wrong.
When the doctor finally told us she had primary pulmonary hypertension, it sounded like something your grandfather would get -- not a 16-year-old girl. Since then, each day is a struggle. Maya hates taking the medication and we continually convince her that there is no other option. She complains about being different, about everything being harder for her... I too wish she could just be a normal teenager....
